This dream was about

I dreamt my dad, who has dementia and now lives in a care home passed away but I only found out after the funeral. A while later he visited me in the dream and I recognised him as ghost, yet he looked well. He hugged me and told me he missed me but he was fine and actually alive. I told him he had sadly died but my sister didn't tell me when his funeral was (me and my sister aren't close at all in waking life) and this upset me a lot. He then got really angry at me and started shouting at me that I was loosing my mind! I cried but then said "ok, let's see about that!" I went to the doctor who confirmedy dad had died and I wasn't loosing my mind, that my dad was visiting me and just annoyed at that time. My sister oddly bought my gifts from his funeral. I woke up from the dream very emotional.

Jodie, your dream about your father carries a mix of emotions and unresolved feelings. It's clear that you miss him deeply and are still processing the impact of his dementia and placement in a care home. The fact that you discover his passing only after the funeral suggests a sense of being disconnected or uninformed about important events in his life. This may reflect feelings of guilt or regret about not being more involved or present for him. The appearance of your father as a ghost who is both well and angry could symbolize your inner conflict between the reality of his condition and your longing for him to be healthy and present. His anger might represent your own frustration and helplessness in dealing with his illness and the circumstances surrounding it. It's interesting that your sister, with whom you have a strained relationship, is the one who brings you gifts from his funeral. This could symbolize a complex mix of emotions, including resentment, envy, or a desire for reconciliation. Your dream also highlights your anxiety about your mental state, as you seek confirmation from a doctor that you're not losing your mind. This ties into your GAD-7 anxiety test scores, suggesting that your dream is influenced by your current emotional state. Jodie, this dream seems to be a manifestation of your grief, longing, and unresolved feelings about your father's illness and passing. It also reflects your anxiety and concerns about your own mental well-being. It might be helpful to process these emotions through journaling, therapy, or talking to a trusted friend or family member. Remember, dreams can offer insights into our inner selves, but ultimately, you are the best interpreter of your own experiences.
