Dream
My dream began in my grandmothers old house, long-since renovated and with new people living there. My mother and oldest daughter were there, who I am estranged from, so there was tension and I was sick with worry, but understandings were reached. I had some comunity authority too, and could speak to people about various issues, and they would act on my advice.
Then one day, I saw one of the local women behaving very oddly. She was a serious woman, one who would never act in irresponsible or improper ways, but she was clearly ravenously hungry and unable to remember the procedural sequence of events to assemble a meal, or work a microwave oven etc. I saw confusion on her face as she tried again and again to push imaginary buttons on a box or add food to incorrect implements. Soon after, a storekeeper opened up his shop and some townsfolk were waiting, aware of him and friendly but craving food, so they burst in, a bit embarrased and partly trying to hide what they were doing - trying to get to the food, but unable to remember how to open some packets or cook any of it, again pushing invisible microwave buttons etc.
I could see it all, and realised some strange kind of sickness or contagion had spread throughout the town. I followed people all day and night observing, and saw that they had all seen these mysterious tree-branch creatures running through the parks at night. These creatures were all shapes and sizes, some like giraffes, some elephants, some dogs or horses. And seeing them left people ravenously hungry but unable to remember how to satisfy that hunger adequately. They were all reduced to just unhappily eating dry food or raw ingredients. They were lucid in every other way. Which made them even unhappier and embarrassed. The next day I was hosting a gathering for some kids and friends at my house, so I just prepared a lot of cooked food for them. I was hungry too, because I'd also seen the creatures, but was somehow the only one able to remember how to cook food. So I cooked up a big amount of food, and as I was serving it up, my friend Kelly, her husband Astein and daughter Nina arrived. Nina went into the room with the others and started ravenously eating, Kelly and Astein came into the kitchen, and I grinned at them saying "You're starving right? Here, have all these chicken nuggets, " and we all laughed as I handed them two giant bowl of delicous, spicy chicken that I had just cooked. I explained to them what was going on as we all ate. No solutions were found but I was completely relaxed and happy because I knew what the problem was and was feeding people.
