I Theremy son Wolfe to this community activity where you were supposed to learn new skills and meet people. There were lots of different things to do, but we chose knitting. Supplies were being passed out in our group, and someone was teaching - but it was hard to follow. I determined to ask the person passing our the supplies if there ould be someone to help us get started so we knew what we were doing. So we waited. In the mean time they showed us a video of people at an event like this. There was some kind of terror attack and they all died. At the front of the screen was a girl - her lifeless eyes and knitting entwined around her fingers. Somehow I realized from that l, that the knitting skill was not the important part. The human connection was. That was what we were there to learn. The knitting was incidental- you could learn it by accident in a community. But you could acquire a thousand skills and never connect with another human being. Human activities used to almost all be entirely useful. You made needed things, and you played in ways that taught you something. In modern society so much of our activity is useless and will be forgotten. The thing that still matters is relationships. Did you make human connections while you had the chance. Those will outlast you more than your work.
