Dream
As my class walked through the building, our instructor told us to be very careful and we had to follow a very strict schedule. This field trip to a haunted house was serious and there was no room for shenanigans.
As we walked around we had to take notes of the words written on the walls. The words were written neatly as if they were painted on by the staff themselves. You’ve difficult for me to get all the notes down due to me being unmotivated, scared of being alone in the area full of ghosts, and in a building being dimly lit since not all the lights were on. We walked around with writing boards, pieces of paper, and pencils with us.
The end of the day came closer, I felt insecure with my mostly empty paper around my peers who had a good amount of their paper already done. Soon, we all huddled into a single room full of beds. It looks like a nursery room. Though as we turned off the lights and said our good nights, I found myself struggling to fall asleep. I kept looking at the moon and checking my phone for any missing assignments since it had been on my mind for quite a long time. Our teacher looked at me concerned.
I decided to go out on my own to try to catch up on my missing work despite my fear. Turns out I wasn’t the only one who couldn’t sleep since I saw many of my peers walking around the place and goofing off. It must’ve been late at night or super early in the morning, my guess around 12-4 AM.
I wondered the area to look for more notes written in the walls. As I looked around, me and my peers noticed two rooms next to each other. Looks like an abandoned auditorium while the other looked like a secret room that was locked off. Well, poorly locked off since we could still get inside of it.
Some of us decided to go inside the secret room, though I decided to stay back and go inside the auditorium with the rest of the class. The auditorium was difficult to go through since the debris was in the way most of the time. I got to the back of the auditorium where it was closed off. As I approached the gate that closed the rest of the auditorium off I saw something, sort of like a face or eyes glowing in the dark, and it made me faint, strangely. I knew it wasn’t just in my head since my peers watched in me in the back, horrified. Some of them even let out a yell of horror.
I decided to stay away from the auditorium and go to the secret room instead. There I saw a old looking room sort of like a living room that was in a house. There was a child and an old woman. The child scared me, but I still wanted to hold it.
As I approached the child, the old woman told me to not touch it because it’ll get mad at me. I listened to her since even though it was a child, it was still spirit, and I respected the dead and I was sort of scared of it too. I wouldn’t want to piss off a spirit now.
My heart told me to take care of that child, but I knew I couldn’t do it to the old women’s warnings. I left the room and by then the teacher had been awake and we continued to our tour.
We walked through the hallway and looked through abandoned rooms. Though me being me, I wandered off from the group and looked at different rooms instead. I noticed how different sections of the building had different fire alarms and that they were labeled in both English and Potawatomi. Not wanting to get in trouble, I decide to follow the rest of the group outside.
Unfortunately, I must have been wandering off for too long since the group had left me behind and were on their way to go home. The teacher noticed me and called the bus to come back here.
As we waited, me and the teacher decide to wander around the area for a little longer. While wandering the area, I noticed my friend Shuang was still here. I wasn’t sure why she wasn’t on the bus with the others, but she probably got left behind like I did. By then, it was dark outside. Though we were near a populated area so I didn’t feel scared.
My friend, Shuang, told me but I needed to properly leave the building. If I didn’t, the spirit would get angry and haunt me. She showed me how to properly do it. With a stick, she danced and walked through it as if she was walking through a doorway. I could only imagine it was supposed to represent the doorway to the spirit to our living world.
With struggle, I tried my best to follow along what she had done. Though she said what I was doing wasn’t right since I was supposed to dance with my heart. I tried again, but with no success. I even stumbled and fell on my back.
I got frustrated and stormed off to the nearest Powwow. I watched the dancers as I used a random branch to poke the ground and rocks. I thought to myself about the importance of sticks and branches. I was at a conflict with myself.
