Dream About Haunted House In Nigeria

This was a strange and sad dream. My mom was living in a house in Nigeria, and it was a huge old beautiful home with limited decoration. It may have been shaped like a big square with multiple floors and an inner courtyard. My mom was living there alone with a lot of unkempt beds and was uneasy about the whole house. The beds had white sheets and pillows, and coarse brown blankets. There was apparently a second guest house that was even more unkempt, and Mom told me she’d realized the night before that someone was living in there without her knowing, and she heard them singing and wandering around, but she never found them. I heard the singing too but didn’t look for the singer, knowing I wouldn’t find them. Mom was uneasy but solemn about that situation and had wanted me to spend nights at the house(s) with her sooner, but I hadn’t. At one point it sank in how disturbed and alone she’d felt, and I felt guilty and embraced her, and tried to get comfortable for a night there with her. As night approached I tried to cheer things up a little and find a bed for both of us to sleep in, but there was a sense of being haunted by other people who we could sense but never see. We could see evidence of them having been in rooms and especially beds but we never actually saw anyone else. I think this dream was influenced by meeting my best friend’s boyfriend yesterday who is Nigerian, and noticing a few times that he reminded me of my grandfather in terms of build. My mom’s parents and my mom are a quarter Nigerian, I myself am an eighth, but we know little about this heritage due to slavery. I also know little about Nigerian cultures or history generally. The houses felt filled with human presences that were lost or missing and I also felt that I had neglected my mom there, and she had been alone but not really alone. The whole dream felt off and strangely empty.
