When I was six, I used to watch a lot of “hacker” videos on YouTube. They were fake, but as a little kid, I didn’t know that. They actually scared me a lot, even though I kept watching them. I didn’t realize that the fear was building up inside me. One night, I had a nightmare that really stuck with me. It seems silly now, but back then it felt terrifying. In the dream, my dad was a hacker, and there were hidden tunnels all around our house. Every time I tried to talk to him, he would escape into one of the tunnels. I remember being in an office in the dream, and my dad opened a drawer and said he needed to get his phone. I thought he was just grabbing it normally, but the drawer opened up into another secret tunnel and he disappeared again. He kept avoiding talking to me. Looking back, I feel like the dream actually connects to real life a little. My dad doesn’t like talking about feelings or anything deep or spiritual. Whenever something emotional comes up, he tries to avoid it, just like the dream version of him escaping into tunnels.

Maddi, your dream is a fascinating tapestry woven from the threads of your childhood experiences and emotional perceptions. When you were six, those 'hacker' videos on YouTube, despite being fake, instilled a sense of fear that you might not have fully understood at the time. This fear, though subtle, built up in your subconscious as you continued to watch them, creating a fertile ground for your imagination to manifest into dreams. It's not unusual for children to be drawn to things that scare them, as it can be a way of trying to understand and master their fears. In your dream, your dad being portrayed as a hacker might symbolize feelings of distance or complexity in your relationship with him. Hackers are often seen as mysterious, operating behind the scenes, much like how you may have perceived your dad when it came to emotional matters. The hidden tunnels in your house could represent the unseen or unspoken aspects of your family dynamics, especially in communication. The tunnels serve as a metaphor for the pathways he takes to avoid confrontation or deep discussions, which aligns with your waking life observations of him avoiding emotional conversations. The setting of being in an office and your dad's actions of opening a drawer to get his phone, only for it to lead to another secret tunnel, is particularly telling. Offices are places of business, organization, and often, authority.
